Members are aware that a Project has been assigned to Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) for adoption of Bar Coding System for Handicrafts, Textiles, Carpets etc.  through GSI India under Ministry of Commerce. The details of the Scheme have already been circulated to you vide this Council’s letter dated 18th December, 2009 and also reminded on 22nd January, 2010. The response of our member-Exporters is not very encouraging as we have received, so far, consent of only 8 Members for joining the above Scheme.

The O/o. the DC(Handicrafts) has informed us that GSI has to undertake registration of 300 Firms of Carpet Exporters and decided that this Council will recommend at least 50 application for registration by end of March, 2010. We would, therefore, once again request the Members to take advantage of this Scheme and send their consent by return mail with their complete contact details for enrolment  to enable us to forward the same to O/o. the DC(H) for consideration.
