INAUGURATION OF SALE OF HANDMADE CARPETS AT SHILPI HAAT, Baba Kharag Singh Marg, Opp” Hanuman Mandir, Connaught Place, New Delhi

 

Sale of Handmade Carpets made by Artisans and Weavers was inaugurated by Smt Kiran Dhingra, Secretary (Textiles), in the august presence of Shri S.S. Gupta, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Mr. V. Srinivas, Joint Secretary (Exports), Ministry of Textiles and other Govt Officers at SHILPI HAAT, Rajiv Gandhi Handicrafts Bhawan, at Baba Kharag Singh Marg,  New Delhi.  The sale was organized by Carpet Export Promotion Council under the aegis of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts).  Such type of sale was organized to promote small manufacturers / exporters to tap the domestic market in which 32 companies participated. 

In this inaugural ceremony, besides CEPC Chairman, Shri Siddh Nath Singh, the Committee members named Mr. O.P. Garg, Mr. Gulam Nabi Bhat, Mr. Shyam Singhania Past Chairman, Mr. Vijay Thakur, and Mr. R.B. Mathur, Past Vice Chairman, Mr. Ashwani Tiwari, alongwith Shri Shiv Kumar Gupta, Executive Director-cum- Secretary, Carpet Export Promotion Council and other leading exporters and manufacturers who have exhibited their products. 

The Sale of handmade carpets is open for general public , craft loving people, and tourists, on every day including every Saturday and Sunday upto 31/12/2012. Handmade carpets, Rugs, Floor Coverings, Durries and other allied products have been displayed from Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Panipat, Kashmir, Pondicherry, Gwalior, Bangalore, Jaipur, Dharamsala and from other regions.

It is expected that such type of domestic sale will boost the morale of artisans, weavers, young entrepreneurs. Shilpi Haat is a popular destination for craft loving people of national and International origin. 

CEPC Chairman has said that it is a good start by the Carpet Export Promotion Council and will such shows in all other Metros in future for branding of Indian Handmade carpets. 

Such initiative will surely generate employment in domestic markets.  -0-
