Project Objectives
 

To improve unit value realization and to accelerate growth in exports by establishing a brand name 

  • by developing and marketing new designs based on Indian ethnic themes 

  • to enlarge the scope of marketing by involving   importers in us markets and exposing products in new  markets through road shows, participation in fairs & exhibitions 

  • to improve productivity and quality by marketing of improved looms, tools developed by Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi 

  • to encourage production of carpets based on vegetable dyes

Context of Design Development

 
  • Carpets produced were largely on traditional persian design 

  • no unique competitive advantage apart  from price and variety in quality 

  • the industry was mostly depending on designs provided by their buters and there had been neglible investment in design by them 

  • global market of interiors under going significant change in trends and influences.

 
Design development activity
 
  • The exposure of new designs in international market has received very encouraging response particularly in us 

  • This has led to investment towards professional design experts by indian exporters both within and outside the project 

  • More and more exporters have started developing and marketing carpets having indian identity

 

Tier strategy was evolved for marketing

 
  • Establishing a brand name for more unit value realization.

  • Promotion of carpets in India.

  • Display of Thematic designs in India Carpet Fair October, 2000.

  • Displayed newly developed carpets in special exhibition at CCIE in  November, 2000 at New Delhi.

  • Displayed designs in Carpet Expo, February, 2001.

  • Displayed tools, equipments and photographs of  designs in India Carpet Fair, October, 2001.

  • Displayed tools, equipments and photographs of designs in India Carpet Fair, February, 2002.

  • Displayed tools, equipments and photographs of designs in India  Carpet Fair, October, 2002

  • Promotion undertaken in the name of Indiya Collection /  images of India in India and abroad by organising participation in established fairs, organising road shows in specialised stores in USA.

 

 
The marketing strategy
 
  • Promotion of carpets in Europe.

  • Domotex, 2001- displayed 158 carpets to interact with customers by a team comprising of experts from HHEC, IICT and a Designer. A press conference was also arranged together with an India evening.

  • Domotex, 2002 – 33 carpets were displayed.

  • Muba Basal Fair, Switzerland.
